Reducing Anxiety on the spot

If you are alive on the planet earth you have, at some time or another, suffered from anxiety. And you know how much that sucks. I hate it too. Those distressing thoughts and feelings can seem to overwhelm us at times, leaving us feeling helpless and desperate to feel better. Have you wondered if it can change? What can be done to reduce anxiety, to manage it, to fix it? You can’t just THINK yourself out of anxiety. But I know what does work: tapping.
I’m not talking about tap dancing. (Although I bet it would make you feel better! All that exercise and melodic rhythm.) The tapping I’m talking about is based on the principles of Chinese Acupuncture. It’s an energy medicine technique called EFT-Emotional Freedom Techniques . I use this daily with my clients to help them calm down the trigger-happy, freaked out “fight or flight” part of the brain called the amygdala. The amygdala is like the smoke detector in your brain. It sounds the alarm anytime it smells danger. You know how sometimes your smoke detector goes off at home because you just burned toast and then it’s blaring and you have to shut it off, but it takes a while and you are shouting, “there’s no fire!” to anyone within ear shot? But it’s still blaring and finally you get it turned off. Whew! Well, in our brain, the amygdala sounds the alarm for ANY thing that feels or looks (or smells!) like a threat. And when the alarm is sounded, brain chemistry gets going: adrenaline and cortisol are pushed into the bloodstream to help activate our bodies to be ready to save ourselves, by either running out of harm’s way or fighting off the threat (fight or flight).
When you are stressed out, you can bet your amygdala is on the job. Those chemicals that rush into your bloodstream are there to activate you to take BIG ACTION—and if you are coping with troubles at work or in a relationship, running out of the room or starting a big fight are not best the solutions. You need some way to combat the stress and calm your brain chemistry. Tapping turns off the amygdala’s alarm. It helps re-balance your brain. Studies have shown that using EFT/tapping dramatically reduces cortisol levels, correlating to reduced anxiety.
Sounds great, right? How about if I told you that you can even get started with tapping on your own? It’s easy to get started – you can go to EFT Universe or TappingSolution and watch videos and learn to use this invaluable tool. You can also make an appointment (in person, phone or Skype) and I can teach you how to use EFT/Tapping, which can help you reduce your anxiety, decrease pain, improve sleep and many other wonderful benefits.
