Thoughts you probably have sometimes ( I know I do!)

At the wonderful age of 50, I was sitting here contemplating, “Will they think I’m stupid? Will I be judged for my spelling?” Seriously?! But I worried- what will my friends or clients or referral sources or even strangers who read this– the ones who are grammarists— what will they think? Will those who don’t know me well judge me as stupid or foolish for not spelling a word correctly?

I hate to be thought of as stupid– most especially by my SELF. That is an old habit pattern I have worked on. So while I worry about what others think, really, I am in a battle with me. And that never feels good. What to do??  If you know me and you read these posts fairly often, it won’t surprise you to hear me say this: TAP on it. Free myself from the old belief.

Keep challenging that old thought when it pops up, instead of automatically believing it.

It’s something you can do too–  bring old beliefs out of the darkness and into the light, let them be examined… let them be aired out… let them be released.  I use the Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT/ Tapping) as mentioned, to help with this.  I also use breathing, mindfulness, self-compassion and gentle humor to help myself release those old judgments.

So last week when I made an erroneous math calculation, I owned it. I chuckled at myself instead of calling myself “stupid”.  I told the people involved, revealed my mistake and got the correct payment owed to me. And it felt good. Not stupid.  (Catching it was the brilliant part!)

If you struggle with old beliefs and judgements, consider using EFT or the techinques listed above. Or has some other method helped you rid yourself of old judgements? What has helped you grow and let go of the past? Feel free to share and remember, be kind to yourself (and to others).  We are all works in progress!

By the way, I looked up the spelling of “judgement”- and saw it is acceptable for it to be spelled with an “e” after the “g” – Yay!! So I don’t have to re-do the meme I had made weeks earlier. Whew. 🙂
